THE NAUTICAL SECTOR IN THE PROVINCE OF LA SPEZIA

The XII Report on the Sea Economy has been published. Below are the updated figures pertaining to the province of La Spezia. The sea economy generates €1,145.3 million in added value for La Spezia, confirming the city as third in the national ranking.

In detail for La Spezia:
- It ranks as the 3rd Italian province in terms of the value added generated by the Blue Economy (€1,145.3 million, accounting for 16.8% of the provincial value added);

- It is the 4th Italian province for the incidence of employed individuals (15% of the provincial total), behind Rimini, Genoa, and Livorno, with 14,411 employees.

- It is confirmed as the leading Italian province for the incidence of businesses in the Blue Economy (16.6% of all active businesses at the provincial level, an increase of 0.3 percentage points compared to the previous year); due to the contribution of the tourism sector, and secondarily to the shipbuilding sector.

- It is the 1st Italian province for the incidence of shipbuilding exports on the total provincial exports; in 2023, shipbuilding exports accounted for 42.8% of the total provincial export value.

Finally, the TOP 5 are compiled based on specialization level – calculated as the ratio between the share of companies in the sector and the same share calculated at the national level – and La Spezia ranks:
• First place in the shipbuilding sector;
• Second place after Venice in the cargo and passenger handling sector;
• Second place after Rimini in the tourism sector.
